The final race of the season for our club – the handicap champs with a twist – IS NOW CANCELLED

Apologies, but due to a lack of interest from members, we have made the decision to cancel the last race of the season. For those few people who entered, a refund will be processed over the next few days. Sorry that this is the outcome, most of the Committee were taking the opportunity to race so we are all a bit disappointed we couldn’t get much interest.

This Saturday (1 APRIL), final race of the Season for club members only. We are having the club’s first ever handicap AQUATHLON champs just to mix it up a bit! The Hobart Airport road changes has made our usual bike course too dangerous, with a right hand turn across traffic on Grueber Avenue needed as well as having to contend with a poor road surface. After much discussion, the Committee has made the decision to change the format to an aquathlon so that we can still have a final catch-up and a bit of fun – the alternative was cancellation as its too late to move the venue. Details:

  • Saturday, 1 April at Day Use Area #1, Seven Mile Beach (on the beach).
  • One distance for all: 500 metre swim, 4km beach run.
  • The event price is just $20.
  • Event start is 9:30am, so rego from around 8:15am.
  • Come along from about 8am to help us set-up on the beach. If you were at the recent Kingston Beach aquathlon, it’ll be the same set-up.

Azed is busily running his new beaut algorithm to see who get’s what time penalty. We’ll check entries at midday Thursday and if there is a good level of support we’ll go ahead as planned.

A few volunteers will be needed to assist with duties while the race is running, especially setting athletes off at their alloted handicap time, and noting finish times. If you can help or can bring a family member along to help out and cheer you on at the same time, that’ll be great.
