Triathlon is divided into Age Group Categories. When we refer to “Club Juniors”, we are really referring to two age groups as defined by Triathlon Australia:
- Junior: 16 to 19 years of age
- Youth: 13 to 15 years of age.
Triathlon South offers all our club members 13 to 19 years, access to our junior triathlon training program. In this program, we aim to provide safe and fun training environments overseen by TA accredited and experienced coaches.
Our junior program aims to develop triathletes and give them the opportunity to progress in the sport to whatever level they aspire to. The full program caters for athletes from 12 – 20 years, offering fun swim, run & ride sessions to cater for all levels.
Our junior club athletes can participate in our events, albeit there are often age restrictions that do apply depending on the distances and event type. The age restrictions are usually stated as part of the information provided before entering any of our races through the Active online entry system. Our club juniors are also offered heavily discounted race entry fees to encourage participation and reduce the cost burden on parents – particularly when several children are participating. The junior race subsidy is reviewed by the Committee each Season.
If you would like to know more about the TA mandated age and other restrictions on juniors, please review the TA Race Competition Rule Book.
Pathways for younger kids
The Club offers some kid-friendly races at certain events – e.g. duathlons at the DEC in Winter and by offering aquathlons at several of our triathlon events in Summer – supporting younger aspiring triathletes aged below 13 years. We encourage the children to have fun and enjoy every aspect of the sport.
