Thank you for your understanding around our original Race #1 of the series being cancelled at short notice. For those who may have missed the reason, it was due to the State Government taking over the DEC complex for the Meningococcol Vaccine Clinic over the weekend of 4 and 5 August. Unfortunately we did not have an option and could not change the venue at short notice due to permit requirements and insurance documentation that needs to be submitted weeks in advance.

But great news, a third race has been scheduled to re-instate this as a three-race series and provides a great opportunity for all experience and fitness levels to compete or just have fun on a completely closed course (no vehicles) at the Derwent Entertainment Centre (the DEC). Racing is organised by your local triathlon club, Triathlon South.

Come and enjoy a Sprint Distance (Run 4.5km, Ride 18.8km, Run 2.4km), or a shorter Enticer distance (Run 1.9km, Ride 11km, Run 1.9km). A great way to start a Sunday morning.

This year we are playing for points! Your two best scores from the Sprint distance race will be calculated and a major cash prize of $250 each for overall best female and male will be up for grabs and presented after the conclusion of Race 3. And, there are also spot prizes to win back your race entry fee at the conclusion of each race as part of our sponsor spot prize draw (must be present to win).

It’s been a busy year for club members with lots of travel up North and around the Country for many in the quest to achieve personal goals, like representing their State and their Country. We will be recognising those who have achieved both racing and support of our club in other ways, including male and female Triathletes of the Year, age category winners, club spirit, volunteer and President’s award.

The format is informal, child-friendly and easy on the budget, with guests provided with a selection of finger food (including vegetarian options). Drinks are available for purchase from the bar.

Tassal Triathlon Festival Race Guide 2018

You voted for a final triathlon to end the Season in the South, so we are putting it on! As the votes were split 50:50 on distances offered, we have decided to open up all three distances. We do however require your support to make this event a success. If you raced/attended the Strategic Sprint Distance Championships at 7 Mile Beach in January, then you know the course, but you also know the extra effort and organisation the volunteer committee must go to to run this event at this new location given there is no infrastructure at all and set-up is more complicated, and we now need road management. So please support your club by entering the event, and make this a great fun triathlon to end the Season on. More details to come in the form of a race information booklet which we will post as soon as finalised.

When: 10am, Saturday 24 March 2018
Where: Orana Guide Camp, Roches Beach
Who: All welcome (age limits apply as per Triathlon Australia rules)

The Strategic Financial Planning State Cross Triathlon Championships and Multisport Challenge is three events in one! This is a great setting for this event, with the beautiful and usually calm waters of Roches Beach and Lauderdale (start near Bambra Reef), so great for either swimming or paddling. A mountain bike course that offers a bit of everything, including some tight twisting and technical single track (watch out for the wallabies!), with some road connection and open paddocks, and a view to die for at the top of the small hill. This is followed by a picturesque trail run along the beach and foreshore trail with a road connection (and another small hill). The Cross Triathlon is a qualification event for Australian team selection for the World cross triathlon championships in Denmark later in 2018.

For this event, you can enter the:

  1. State Cross Triathlon Championships: 750 metre swim  |  15km mountain bike  |  6km trail run, or
  2. Multisport Challenge: 7km paddle  |  15km mountain bike  |  6km trail run, or
  3. Paddle Time Trial only: 7km

The State Cross Triathlon Championships participants will start first and complete their swim, when the last person leaves the water to head to transition to start the mountain bike leg, the Multisport Challenge and Paddle Time Trial competitors will be started. This will ensure that competitors can better enjoy the mountain bike leg which contains a lot of single track at the top of the small hill.

When: Twilight, Friday 23 March 2018
Where: Kingston Beach (southern end).
Who: All welcome (age group restrictions apply according to Triathlon Australia rules)

What a deal this is… not only have we organised an awesome carb-loading meal to fuel your racing on the Saturday, but we have gone to much trouble to bring together the “Dream Team”… an expert panel of the best in their field to make up a triathlon dream team. In a Mathew Keenan Style sit down discussion, our MC/Coach will be probing these elite sports persons for their secrets for Swim/Bike/Run. We know we will get a few tall stories and 100% that we will get a lot of laughs, so come and join us. Competitors, supporters, family & friends all welcome, and kid friendly too.

The guest expert panel is now confirmed:

  • Hanny Allston
  • Ray Winstanley
  • Michael Anderson
  • Nick Morgan, and
  • Cam Wurf (a pre-recorded interview especially for the Strategic Tasmanian Sprint Triathlon Championships).

The competitor information booklet is now available for this race and outlining the schedule, course details, maps and any other important information. This race is now an Aquathlon – Reason

Owing to recent changes in procedures around traffic management, we unfortunately are required to convert this weekend’s triathlon to an Aquathlon.

New requirements by Tas Police are being introduced to support the safety of competitors on public roads, and Triathlon South are not the only event organisers working to satisfy the new conditions. We will run an Aquathlon which will follow the swim and run course for the National Qualifying event on 20 January 2018, still offering two distances. We will also reduce the entry price to $15 for club and $20 for TA members. We will contact those who have already entered at the higher price to discuss a full refund or payment adjustment. It is disappointing but with the World the way it is, the flow-on effects around trying to keep everyone safe filters down to grass roots clubs like ours, adding another layer of complexity to get a triathlon up and running for the community to participate in. Xmas BBQ is still on after the race.

The race will be on the beach in front of the car park to Day Use Area #2 at Seven Mile Beach. Both the Sprint and Enticer distances will be available at this venue.

In addition to the Aquathlon, we will still have our Club Christmas BBQ to finish off with.

Race Schedule:

  • Registration desk opens @ 9:00am
  • Compulsory race briefing @ 9:45am
  • Race start @ 10:00am
  • BBQ and a quiet lemonade to get into the festive spirit after the race, including sponsor spot prizes draw.

Event distances:

  • Enticer: 300m | 2.5km (age rules apply: 12 year olds can only compete as part of a team, 13 year olds can enter as a solo participant)
  • Sprint: 750m | 5km (age rules apply: 13 year olds can only compete as part of a team, 14 year olds can enter as a solo participant)

Race entry fees:

  • Club member early bird $15, including teams
  • TA member early bird $20, including teams

Once you put your birth date in, your race category age group will be automatically set (Note: age as at 31 December 2017):

  • Junior: 19 and under
  • Senior: 20 to 39
  • Veteran: 40 and over
  • Teams: will be split into average age categories as per above if sufficient numbers, otherwise all “open”.

Sorry, but this event is NOT open to the public. If you are interested in racing, please review the Triathlon Australia website for membership options.
