What a deal this is… not only have we organised an awesome carb-loading meal to fuel your racing on the Saturday, but we have gone to much trouble to bring together the “Dream Team”… an expert panel of the best in their field to make up a triathlon dream team. In a Mathew Keenan Style sit down discussion, our MC/Coach will be probing these elite sports persons for their secrets for Swim/Bike/Run. We know we will get a few tall stories and 100% that we will get a lot of laughs, so come and join us. Competitors, supporters, family & friends all welcome, and kid friendly too.

Why: Because who wants to spend time gathering and cooking the night before a big race? And there’s entertainment too!
Cost: $25 per adult: entrée & pasta meal (vegan/veg meal must be pre-ordered) with guest elite discussion panel entertainment (see menu below) and $10 per child (see meals below – choose on the night)

Getting there
Tasmania Golf Club is physically located at 1420 Tasman Highway, Cambridge – just east of the turn-off to the Hobart Airport. Driving to the Golf Club takes about 15 minutes from the Hobart CBD and only 2 min drive from Hobart Airport. Bounded by water on three sides, the spectacular Tasmania Golf Club is situated on the picturesque Barilla Bluff.

For any of our interstate guests without transport staying near the Airport/Seven Mile Beach venue, if you wish to come along (we’d love to see you all), please contact the club and we’ll see if we can organise someone to pick you up on the way to the Golf Club. This is a points race for Australian Team selection for the World Triathlon Championships on the Gold Coast in September 2018. It is also part of the Tasmanian State Triathlon Series and a club race.

The competitor information booklet is now available for this race and outlining the schedule, course details, maps and any other important information. Significant changes to the long-standing course at Seven Mile Beach has had to be implemented due to the runway extension work at Hobart Airport and the re-alignment of Surf Road. Please read the information booklet.

For those with TA membership, you will need to produce your card as well as Photo ID at the registration desk on the day of the race.

Event distances:

  • Sprint: 750m | 20km | 5km (age rules apply: 13 year olds can only compete as part of a team, 14 year olds can enter as a solo participant)
  • Enticer is now cancelled due to a lack of interest in this distance as at 1 January 2018.

In the beautiful coastal village of Orford, the Tassal Standard, Sprint and Enticer distance triathlons will get underway. This is a great venue and the Club’s only standard distance triathlon for the season. More details to come.

This race is now an Aquathlon – Reason

Owing to recent changes in procedures around traffic management, we unfortunately are required to convert this weekend’s triathlon to an Aquathlon.

New requirements by Tas Police are being introduced to support the safety of competitors on public roads, and Triathlon South are not the only event organisers working to satisfy the new conditions. We will run an Aquathlon which will follow the swim and run course for the National Qualifying event on 20 January 2018, still offering two distances. We will also reduce the entry price to $15 for club and $20 for TA members. We will contact those who have already entered at the higher price to discuss a full refund or payment adjustment. It is disappointing but with the World the way it is, the flow-on effects around trying to keep everyone safe filters down to grass roots clubs like ours, adding another layer of complexity to get a triathlon up and running for the community to participate in. Xmas BBQ is still on after the race.

The race will be on the beach in front of the car park to Day Use Area #2 at Seven Mile Beach. Both the Sprint and Enticer distances will be available at this venue.

In addition to the Aquathlon, we will still have our Club Christmas BBQ to finish off with.

Race Schedule:

  • Registration desk opens @ 9:00am
  • Compulsory race briefing @ 9:45am
  • Race start @ 10:00am
  • BBQ and a quiet lemonade to get into the festive spirit after the race, including sponsor spot prizes draw.

Event distances:

  • Enticer: 300m | 2.5km (age rules apply: 12 year olds can only compete as part of a team, 13 year olds can enter as a solo participant)
  • Sprint: 750m | 5km (age rules apply: 13 year olds can only compete as part of a team, 14 year olds can enter as a solo participant)

Race entry fees:

  • Club member early bird $15, including teams
  • TA member early bird $20, including teams

Once you put your birth date in, your race category age group will be automatically set (Note: age as at 31 December 2017):

  • Junior: 19 and under
  • Senior: 20 to 39
  • Veteran: 40 and over
  • Teams: will be split into average age categories as per above if sufficient numbers, otherwise all “open”.

Thank you to all participants who took part in our event. We hope to see you all at our next race on 9 December.

Our triathlon season launch will be at the Orana Guide Camp at 146 Roches Beach Road commencing at 9:30am (rego) for a 10am start.

This is open to everyone who is interested in the sport of triathlon. An opportunity for club members old and new to catch up for a bit of banter and share their knowledge with new competitors wishing to enter the sport. Bring your good used second hand gear to sell and your spare cash to buy some good quality gear on offer.

A small entry fee will apply and you can save by paying online through our secure entry system.

What you can expect:
* Water activities/open water training drills with Swim Coach Peter McKenna
* Swim – catering for different ages, fitness levels (e.g. set at 500 metres – do laps)
* Professional water safety in attendance
* Trail run – catering for different ages, fitness levels (e.g. set at 1km – do laps)
* Time your own aquathlon (swim and run)
* Q and A session and other activities
* Buy and sell tri gear – bring stuff to sell, and cash to buy
* $10 Club/TA members inc TS Juniors
* $15 Public (includes insurance day licence fee)
* $20 on the day for everyone – no other discounts
* Facilities include toilets, showers, sun cover, plenty of parking.
Note: there is no bike riding component for this event due to the cost and complication of requiring road management.
