RACE GUIDES & COURSE MAPS

The Club's events take place at Seven Mile Beach, Roches Beach, Orford and the Derwent Entertainment Centre. This page describes each of these venues and the usual course we would set up for each type of race, for example, triathlon, duathlon, cross-triathlon, multisport etc.

Venue: 7 Mile Beach

Race course description for Triathlon and Duathlon events at Seven Mile Beach.

With the airport extension and realignment of Surf Road, which now veers onto a new road and exits out onto Holyman Drive, our usual 7 Mile Beach course from Day Use Area #1 is likely to be changed. Day Use Area #2 (or at least near here) provides the best option taking into consideration safety and transition management. The Committee are working hard to finalise all the logistics, and will provide an update when more information is available.

The Strategic State Sprint Championship Race Information Booklet 2017 provides some guidance to the general course, although this needs to be tweaked to take the road and transition changes into account.

The closure of Surf Road around Day Use Area #2 provides an opportunity to race on a truly closed road (at least until the Pittwater Road intersection). The Committee are keen to take advantage of this by looking at the opportunity to provide kids triathlon races (under 13’s) at this venue. More to come…

Venue: Roches Beach (road tri)

Race course descriptions for road Triathlon events at Roches Beach from the Orana Girl Guides Camp at 146 Roches Beach Road.

Under construction.

Venue: Orford

Race course descriptions for Triathlon events at Orford, from Our Park, Walpole Street.

We offer three distances for the Orford event: Olympic, Sprint and Enticer. This is the only Olympic distance on the Triathlon South calender.

We expect the race description for the 2018 event to be very similar to the 2017 event. Please review the Tassal Orford Triathlon Festival Race Information Guide 2017.

Venue: The DEC

Race course description for Duathlon events at the Derwent Entertainment Centre (the DEC), Glenorchy.

In 2017, all races in the Aldanmark Winter Duathlon Series will take place at the DEC. The course map is available to view and it is recommended all competitors take time to get an understanding of the course prior to race start.

The two distances on offer are:

  • SPRINT: 4.5km run (2 laps)  |  18.8km ride (7 laps)  |  2.4km run (1 lap)
  • ENTICER: 1.9km run (1 lap)  |  12km ride (4 laps)  |  1.9km run (1 lap)

When the weather is at its worst, the DEC can be a rather exposed venue, so please dress appropriately and have a change of dry warm gear to put on after racing.

The dates for the Aldenmark Winter Duathlon Series are:

  • 23 July
  • 6 August
  • 24 September, and
  • 12 November.

Venue: Roches Beach (X-tri)

Race course descriptions for Cross Triathlon and Multisport Challenge (off-road) events at Roches Beach from the Orana Girl Guides Camp at 146 Roches Beach Road.

The comprehensive race booklet with course descriptions for both the Cross Triathlon and Multisport Challenge events is available to download below. This guide includes numerous maps showing each leg of the course. The mountain bike and run legs are both on shared trails, as well as road. On trails, please give way to all users, and especially on Tangara (mountain bike course), during training runs, please slow right down and give way to any horse riders and walkers. If you are competing, please review the guide before race day.

At this stage, we don’t expect any major changes to the course description for 2018, but will have an updated guide closer to the event date.

Venue: Kingston Beach

Race course description for the State Aquathlon Championships.

The event takes place on Kingston Beach, i.e. beach run. Transition will be set up on the shore, closer to the southern end of the beach (as if heading to Blackmans Bay). Please review the event guide for all details for the 2017 event (we expect the race guide for the 2018 event to be similar, but we’ll update closer to the time). Look out for the Triathlon South trailer parked near transition if you are unfamiliar with Kingston Beach.
