Your Club needs you!

This is a shout out to all club members to draw your attention to the Club’s 2017 Annual General Meeting (AGM) which is on Sunday 24 September 2017 at the DEC (prior to the race).

The most important agenda item at the AGM is the election of the Board and Committee.

There are five (5) Board positions and up to 6 other positions that make up Triathlon South. The current President, both Vice Presidents and the Secretary have all indicated that they are stepping aside to allow for a fresh approach going forward.

The harsh reality is that without a Board, the club ceases to exist as it would be against our constitution and therefore illegal to continue. The immediate effect is that we cannot run any races until a Board is put in place.

There are a few possible scenarios:

  • A new Board and Committee is elected and the club can continue with a fresh approach (with assistance from the previous committee if and when required).
  • We have the required Board members but few active committee members so the race calendar is dramatically reduced.
  • Club members fail to step into the Board roles and the club is suspended ~ with all future races placed in doubt or races cancelled.

As a club we are at a crossroads and it is up to you as a Club member to decide what sort of triathlon presence you want in Southern Tasmania going forward, if at all.

If you want to be part of the team that ensures a strong and vibrant existence for triathlon in Southern Tasmania, and can’t make the meeting, please complete the nomination form and return it to by 5pm Saturday 23rd September to be considered as part of the ballot. Nominations can also be made in person just prior to the AGM at the DEC on 24th September.

If you decide to come onto the Committee, we promise that you will be supported by both current and past members, and you will undertake tasks that you are comfortable doing and match your skill-set and available time commitments (unless of course you’d like to jump in and try something new – we can accommodate that too)! The more club members who can commit to helping us in 2017-18 means the workload is shared and individual effort is reduced. So come and get a different perspective and see what goes into running a sporting club and organising events for people passionate about triathlon. You never know where it might lead you…

If you aren’t able to take part in the race on the 24th September we would greatly appreciate your support by attending the AGM, and please rest assured that you won’t end up on the board / committee simply by attending, but your attendance and vote is important.

If you have any questions please email us at or call the current President Mike Lavender on 0455 052 674 to discuss what contribution you can make.
