The AGM is a requirement of our Club status and we encourage any interested Member to come along to ensure we not only meet our AGM reporting obligations, but also to let you know how we have done and what we plan for the upcoming Season. We will also provide information for the upcoming season, including dates & distances. The AGM is also an opportunity for you to nominate for a specific Board role, or join the General Committee, to assist the club to run its events for the 2021-22 Season.

The agenda is:

  • President’s report
  • Secretary’s report
  • Treasurer’s report
  • Election of the 2021-22 Office Bearers (the Board), and the General Committee (up to 6 people).
  • 2021-22 Race Calendar
  • Other business
  • Questions.

If you are a Club member, please come and be part of the discussion about your club, and if interested, put your hand up to take on a role and be part of the driving force behind our events. New members on the Board/Committee provides for new ideas and ways of thinking, and can only benefit the Club for everyone, so please consider being part of the team. No specific experience is necessary – just a desire to help.

Shout out to all female club members… the Committee is way under-represented by females, with only one current member. It would be great to address this imbalance in 2021-22, so please consider if you can spare a small amount of time to contribute to our wonderful club.

If you would like to have a chat to someone about nominating for a role on the Board/Committee, please email us and someone will give you a call back, triathlonsouth@gmail.com

When: Saturday, 29th May 2021

Time: 6:00 pm for a 6:30 pm start

Where: Queens Head Hotel, Elizabeth Street, North Hobart (in the upstairs function room)

All welcome, including the kids, order off the full pub menu.

Guest speaker: We are honoured to have Anne Henderson (Steele) come along and inspire us with her amazing story so far. Anne was the first Tasmanian woman to swim the English Channel, has also conquered Loch Earn in Scotland and is a past Tasmanian on the Year. She has also been inducted into the Tasmanian Honour Role of Women both for her community fund raising efforts and sport and recreation contributions.

How to book: please email  triathonsouth@gmail.com with your family/group numbers by Thursday 27th May.

Club members and their entourages (including the kids) are invited to come along to our race sponsor’s head quarters, the Queens Head Hotel, for the 2020-21 season wrap up. This is a great opportunity to get together with your fellow club members in a social setting and enjoy a great meal and a bevvy or two – and maybe also thank your support team! There are the usual club member discounts on the night for your food, huge lucky door prizes from our fantastic sponsors which both members and non-members are eligible to win, as well as the awarding of a few trophies or two.

This year we have booked the function room upstairs which also has its own bar (so no running up and down any stairs). Everyone will be free to order what takes your fancy from the extensive Queens Head Hotel menu, including the daily specials board.

We have a lot to celebrate on the night – and not just those receiving Awards. With almost a “return to normal” racing in 2020-21, after a shorter Season the year before due to the pandemic, we can also take the opportunity to reflect on how lucky we have been here in Tassie to enjoy getting out and about and enjoy our racing and socialising together.

A little bit more about our Guest Speaker, Anne Henderson

Anne Henderson (Steele) is a schoolteacher and mother of two. Swimming has always played a major part in her life. Throughout the late 70’s and 80’s Anne won several State Titles in both the pool and the open water and went on to represent her State, nationally and internationally. In more recent times, she has competed in Masters Swimming state, national and world events and has taken part in the odd triathlon or two.

Anne created history by becoming the first Tasmanian woman to successfully swim the English Channel back in 2007. Her Swim for Life campaign which accompanied her channel crossing raised $350,000 for the Children’s Cancer Institute Australia. As a result, Anne was named Tasmanian of the Year in 2008 and was inducted into the Tasmanian Honour Role of Women for her contributions to the community and Sport and Recreation in Tasmania.

Anne conquered Loch Earn in Scotland back in 2017. This latest swim was dedicated to raising funds for Melanoma Tasmania, a cause close to Anne’s heart.
