Well the last race of the summer season done and dusted!! Well done to all competitors. Here are the results: Queens Head Hotel Triathlon Race 3, 7MB.
Race Wrap up
Our last triathlon of the 20-21 season landed on a day that was luckily blessed by the weather gods and went off without any issues. Despite only having 21 entries on Thursday morning, the Hobart crowd as usual left entry to the last minute and by Friday night we had 55 (that included half the committee).
The water temp just snuck over the wetsuit optional marker, at 14.1 degrees (all that recent rain and cool weather certainly cooled the ocean down a lot since our last race). The conditions at 7 mile beach provided some nice dumpers that made getting out to the 1st turning buoy a real effort. For safety reasons we changed the swim to a walk down the beach and a straight swim back up.
The enticer field was small but keen to tackle the conditions, with Chloe Jordan 1st youth female (10-12 years) while Jack Woodberry was 1st youth male, 2nd was Oliver Theissen and 3rd was Kyle Jordan. Overall female winner for the Enticer distance was Kate Chambers from Alicia Hansen – both of whom were doing there 1st ever triathlon.👏👏. While in the male race, Andrew Zielinski held firm for 1st from a hard charging Simon Thiessen.
In the sprint race 1st male out of the water was Junior Sam Askey-Doran fresh back from the nationals on the Gold Coast. While 1st female out was Sarah Hardy who raced at Shepperton Standard distance last weekend. In fact, Sarah led all day and was 1st over the line chased by up and coming junior Rachel Horsham and Sheila Barrett in 3rd.
In the male race, Hayden Armstrong took the lead on the bike and held that to the line, he too was chased all the way by Craig Thomas Shepherd. 3rd was tight with cagey old-timer Michael Anderson catching Sam with about 1km to go.
The bike provided a stiff headwind out to the turn for those who raced without aero bars, but we all got some assistance on the way back with nice tailwind.
Congratulations to all competitors, nice to see we had some new faces at the race today. Also a big thank you to all the volunteers who helped out today – Variety the Children’s Charity TAS, Clare Horsham, Pete McKenna on the run, Larissa Oates, Jacquie Mailing, Marcus Barron & Grace Graciella on timing, with Megan Wilmot on the camera. Great to have Espresso Yourself – Mobile Coffee Van on coffees and kiss biscuits for our races.👍
Thankyou to triathlon series sponsor Queens Head Hotel, club sponsors My Ride Hobart and The Running Edge for spot prizes, and of course Lauds Plant Based Foods for providing their always well received hampers.
